What is the Bass in Music?

Bass (also called bottom end) describes tones of low (also called "deep") frequency, pitch and range from 16 to 256 Hz (C0 to middle C4) . The word also refers to the name of the bass instruments that produce tones in the low-pitched range C2-C4. They belong to different families of instruments and can cover a wide range of musical roles.

In strings, it can stand for Double Bass, and in voices, it can also refer to the "bass voice"; in EDM, there is Bass music or Future Bass, which describes a tone with a strong low-frequency impact. In pop or rock music, we are familiar with the term "bass." Its full name should be Electric Bass Guitar, bass electric guitar (electric bass).

The bass guitar is born and corresponds to the treble guitar. The electric bass, on the other hand, is the counterpart of the electric guitar. When the bass part of the electric guitar was too low to be low, but there is no way to meet the music playing needs, and the bass guitar is really too big, the electric bass was born.

If drums are the skeleton of music, then guitar, keyboard, and other melodic instruments are the skin and clothes of music; and the low frequency of bass is the muscle that fills in between the skeleton and determines the texture contour of the whole music.

Obviously, music without bass sounds is dry and floating, while adequate bass can make music sound thicker and more spacious, more impactful for metal, and pop is full of surging and rich feeling. Although you can hardly hear the bass directly (boom boom boom), you can feel it balance the sound in your ears. For the band, this is the main role of the bass. It makes the sound and rhythm seem more stable - without the steady low end given by the bassist, the band's rhythm will easily run off, and the melody will become light and out of control.

This is the most intuitive way to illustrate the importance of the bass from the feeling.

If you consider yourself a bass-head and love the thump and rumble of genres like hip-hop, dubstep, or house music, picking the right headphones for your listening experience is important. You want to look for headphones with deep bass that packs enough punch to be enjoyable without overpowering the rest of the track you’re listening to. Headphones with great bass can help keep you pumped during your workouts, but bulky over-ears usually aren’t the best choice. Earbuds or in-ears are more portable and breathable, making them better suited for use while exercising.
